More chances for mature drivers to hone their abilities and refresh their skills will soon be taking place at Cardiff Council’s Road Safety Unit.
While motoring can often be demanding for drivers of all ages, the number of challenges faced behind the wheel can often increase with age. The Mature Drivers Refresher Seminar offers a host of practical tips, suggestions and driving strategies for the over 55s.
All sorts of driving-related concerns are addressed, such as poor concentration, misjudging speed and distance, difficulties in seeing road signs and changes in road surfaces.
Further potential difficulties like night driving, parking and other manoeuvres will also be dealt with. The course is run in conjunction with the Institute of Advanced Motorists and drivers who take it will be offered free associate membership of the Cardiff IAM Group.
On the second Sunday following the course there will also be an opportunity to undertake a no obligation ‘observed run’ in a driver’s own car, with a trained observer assessing driving skill and offering constructive advice.
