Fishguard Library hosted a special event this week to celebrate the life and work of one of Wales’s best loved children’s writers.
Primary school pupils from across the north of the county dressed up as characters from the books of T Llew Jones in memory of the writer who died earlier this year.
Students read extracts from his work and created pictures and drawings for an art exhibition the library is staging throughout this month.
T Llew Jones was a leading author of children’s books in Welsh and wrote over 80 books over the course of his long life.
Born and bred in Ceredigion he often visited schools in Pembrokeshire to read extracts from his work.
His exciting and adventurous stores – often about highwaymen, pirates or ghosts – were lapped up by his young audiences, who were always eager to read more.
Schools attending the event on Wednesday were Puncheston, Croesgoch, Goodwick, Wolfscastle, Ger y Llan in Letterston, Bro Ingli in Newport, Glannau Gwaun in Fishguard and Llanychllwydog in the Gwaun Valley.
Later this month the Library will be staging a craft activity session for younger children based on one of his most popular books – Barti Ddu, the Pembrokeshire pirate.
The craft activity session – based on a pirate theme – is aimed at children aged four and over and will take place on Wednesday October 28th between 2.30pm and 3.30pm
