A Strategy for Flintshire’s Libraries

Flintshire County Council has recently published its Strategy for Flintshire’s Libraries, outlining how the county’s libraries aim to improve over the next few years.

The Strategy highlights how different libraries are today from what many people remember from their youth. They are bright, attractive and welcoming places open to all members of Flintshire’s communities, providing access to information in many forms as well as books for reading and pleasure, plus a host of other facilities.

The range of facilities available at local libraries spans everything from the latest bestsellers for loan to free access to the internet, enabling people to research local and family history, apply for jobs online, or just surf for pleasure.

The Service has a strong commitment towards encouraging children and young people to enjoy books and reading, and aims to get children into the reading habit at a young age, improve links with local schools, and increase the number of children taking part in holiday time reading activities.

Through each of the Service’s six key objectives, the Strategy summarises what is currently delivered, and identifies what it aims to achieve over the next three years.

Throughout, the aim is to encourage existing library users, and people who may not have visited a library for some time, to take a look at what is happening in Flintshire’s libraries, and discover the wealth of resources on offer. Joining the library costs nothing, and staff are on hand to help visitors find out what is available.

The Strategy can be found in the libraries section of the County Council website at www.flintshire.gov.uk, and there are print copies available in Flintshire’s libraries. The main telephone number for enquiries is the @nswers centre at Mold Library and Museum, on 01352 754791.
