A week of events to celebrate Gwynedd’s families

A whole-host of fun events are being held throughout Gwynedd as part of Wythnos Ni to celebrate the place that the county’s children, young people and families hold in our society.

Wythnos Ni – the Gwynedd Children and Young People’s Week – will take place between 19 and 26 October 2011 and will be marked with activities across the county arranged by the Gwynedd Children and Young People’s Partnership.

To start the week a conference formally launching the Families First Programme – an innovative initiative which provides support to vulnerable families – will be held at Bangor on Wednesday, 19 October.

Iwan Trefor Jones, Chairman of the Gwynedd Children and Young People’s Partnership said:

“Once again this year, Wythnos Ni inclues a wide-range of events across the county to highlight the excellent work being undertaken in response to the needs of Gwynedd’s children, young people and families. I hope that families throughout Gwynedd will make the most of the varied activities and attend the fun events that are on offer.”

A series of fun days are being held at Bethesda (24 October), Tywyn (25 October) and Morfa Nefyn (26 October) between 12.30pm and 3.30pm. The popular children’s character from S4C’s ‘Cyw’ will join the fun along with the evergreen Sali Mali and Fireman Sam. The events will be suitable for the whole family, and a host of activities will be held including play rangers, mini Olympic games, the youth bus, Lori Ni which is an information bus for children and young people, Zumba and a photo booth which will be free for the first families to attend the event.

A bus will travel throughout the areas picking up families for the various events at Plas Ffrancon, Bethesda; the Dysynni Leisure Centre, Tywyn and Canolfan Cymunedol Morfa Nefyn. For more details contact the Wythnos Ni team on 01286 679535.

Councillor Brian Jones, who leads on children and young people’s matters on Gwynedd Council added:

“Wythnos Ni is a great opportunity to celebrate the county’s families and will be a fantastic opportunity to get families to come together and enjoy the fun activities we have on offer. The Council’s aim is to ensure that Gwynedd’s children and families have access to the best opportunities in life – and Wythnos Ni will be a fantastic opportunity to promote the excellent work undertaken locally in responding to the needs and aspirations of the county’s young people.”

Also, Gwynedd’s Specialist Children’s Service will host a fun day for the families of disabled children on Saturday, 22 October. The popular TV personality Martyn Geraint will entertain the children and there will also be an opportunity to play on a bouncy castle, take part in circus games, face painting and to meet Sali Mali and Fireman Sam.
