Aberystwyth lifeboat and Coastguards combine in cliff rescue

The Aberystwyth RNLI lifeboat was called out at 6.20pm on Friday 4th March 2011 to search for a woman who may have been cut off by the tide.

The woman had been walking south from Aberystwyth, when she became trapped by the rising tide. The lifeboat located her approximately five miles from Aberystwyth, where she had climbed about thirty feet up the cliff and appeared to be stuck on a ledge.

One crew member waded ashore and made contact with the woman, telling her to stay where she was, and that further assistance was on the way.

Meanwhile the crew on board the lifeboat were able to direct the Coastguards to her position. A member of the Coastguard cliff rescue team was lowered down to the woman, who was winched up to the top of the cliff.
