Aberystwyth RNLI lifeboat searches for three swimmers

Aberystwyth RNLI lifeboat launched on Tuesday (24 January) to search for three swimmers off South Beach.

Aberystwyth RNLI Atlantic 85 lifeboat Spirit Of Friendship launched on service at 5.15pm,  following an immediate request from H M Coastguard to search for the swimmers off Aberystwyth South Beach.

The volunteer lifeboat crew carried out a shoreline search while Aberystwyth H M Coastguard team searched the beach and water’s edge.

Soon after commencing the search, information was received that the three possible casualties, who had been surfing, had come ashore and returned to their homes safe and well.

In view of this information, the volunteer lifeboat crew and the local H M Coastguard team were stood down and returned to their respective stations. This call was attributed to a false alarm with good intent.

The Aberystwyth lifeboat returned to station at 5.35pm and made ready for another service.
