Shadow Education Minister for Plaid Cymru Simon Thomas has welcomed the appointment of Professor Graham Donaldson to lead an independent review of the National Curriculum and assessment arrangements in Wales.

The Party of Wales Shadow Education Minister, Mid and West AM Simon Thomas said:

“The appointment of Professor Graham Donaldson is to be welcomed. It is absurd that we have not yet managed to establish a national Welsh curriculum since devolution, in more than fifteen years. Teachers tell us that the current situation where we have a ‘national’ curriculum running alongside a ‘Welsh’ curriculum is overloading their workload and I’m glad that the matter is being addressed.

“We need to make space in our curriculum to allow teachers to get on with the job of teaching. We want to allow them to be innovative and creative, to keep learners motivated and engaged. The Welsh Government’s work thus far has been piecemeal, and teachers desperately need a sense of overall direction.”
