Active Corporate Card if a Devil of a Deal

Cardiff Council has officially launched the Active Corporate Card.

Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells was joined by Welsh international and Cardiff Blues rugby star T. Rhys Thomas and Cardiff Devil’s hockey player Sam Smith.

The sport stars came together to show their support for the new scheme and to highlight the importance of a healthy workforce.

ITV Wales Sport presenter Frances Donovan hosted the event which took place at Llanishen Leisure Centre.

The Active Corporate Card offers employees a 25 per cent reduced rate for the cost of leisure and sport across the city.

Businesses and organisations are encouraged to sign up to the scheme in order to engage their employees in active lifestyles as well as promoting a healthy and motivated workforce.

The card provides a simple monthly payment scheme that enables employees to enjoy the unlimited use of activities at any of the council’s 11 sport and leisure facilities.

The launch event coincides with the official opening of the new gym at Llanishen Leisure Centre.
The facility has recently undergone a £60,000 refurbishment project and now boasts brand new equipment including state of the art treadmills, upright exercise bikes and summit trainers.

Cllr Howells said: “I am delighted that the exciting launch of the new Active Corporate Card is taking place here at Llanishen Leisure Centre.

“This refurbished gym provision demonstrates the Council’s commitment to providing new, modern facilities which match the standard of the private sector.

“We recognise the importance of a healthy working environment for employees in Cardiff and the Council is dedicated to providing a high standard of service, as well as a varied and diverse choice of leisure and fitness opportunities at good value for money.”

The new gym facility received positive endorsements from both sporting guests. T.Rhys Thomas said: “The new gym here is on par with some of the private gyms in Cardiff and has similar equipment to the training facilities that rugby teams often use”.

Representatives from South Wales Police and the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board were amongst businesses who attended the event in order to sign up to the scheme.
