Admiral staff get it on for Cardiff in the Christmas city

Admiral staff showed they are Children of the Revolution with an appearance at Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland to mark the company’s tremendous support for Cardiff The Christmas City as a partner on the Admiral Open Air Ice Rink and as a supporter of the free Calennig New Year late night buses.

Staff members Hannah Jefferson, Gabrielle Noble, Joel Palmer and Michael Oakes donned the flares, platforms and afros to celebrate this year’s Calennig headliner T-Rextasy, the world’s only official tribute to Marc Bolan and T-Rex, who will herald the dawn of 2011 in Cardiff’s splendid Civic Centre.

This is the first year that Admiral’s name has been on the ice at Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland, but they have been ensuring the people of Cardiff get home safely and for free in the early hours of New Year’s Day for a number of years.

Cardiff Council Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Nigel Howells said: “Admiral are such fantastic supporters of the city and it’s through them and others like them that we are able to bring the hugely popular and festive Winter Wonderland back for its 10th year, while enabling us to provide free, safe and convenient transport for revellers on New Year’s Eve. Thanks to Admiral, Cardiff really is the Christmas City.”

Admiral originated in Cardiff in 1993, but is now a global force and Wales’ highest valued public company, and the only FTSE 100 company with Welsh headquarters. Ceri Assiratti, head of People Services at Admiral said, “We’re delighted to be sponsoring both the Open Air Ice Rink and the free New Year’s Eve buses this year. Cardiff at Christmas really is a magical place to be and whether visiting the Winter Wonderland throughout the festive period or celebrating New Year in the city centre, we wish everyone a wonderful time.”

Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland features The Admiral Open Air Ice Rink, Ice Café Bar and John Lewis Wheel over more than 50 days of seasonal cheer. The 10th year of the event runs from November 10 to January 3, and tickets for Cardiff’s number one Christmas attraction are now on sale and can be purchased from Ticketline UK on 029 20 230 130.

Cardiff The Christmas City also boasts fabulous shopping throughout the city and in the Winter Fairs around St John’s Street and in the Castle Quarter, and there is the traditional Calennig celebration on New Year’s Eve when the Family Fire Show returns before live music from T Rextasy heralds the dawn of 2011.
