A huge number of adults have been getting active in Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Leisure Centres, with a 9% increase in adult visits in 2013/14 compared to 2012/13.

According to a Sport Wales survey, 262,000 more adults in Wales are participating in sport or exercise three or more times a week, a 34% increase in people from 2008 to 2012.

This remarkable statistic is emulated in Caerphilly County Borough where 30,890 adults have purchased Leisure Lifestyle memberships in 2013/14 compared to 26,441 in 2012/13.

Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, commented, “It is wonderful to see that locally and nationally more adults are participating in sport and exercise. An active lifestyle carries huge health benefits and it is encouraging to see more and more people enjoying exercise.”

38% of adults in Caerphilly County Borough also said that they encourage their families to take part in sport or exercise, compared to the 36% national average.

“Children who are more active have higher attainment levels and are less likely to take part in anti-social behaviour. While we are trying our best to reinforce the benefits of an active lifestyle to children through school and in the community it is wonderful to see that 38% of adults surveyed in Caerphilly are also encouraging their families into sport.”
