Rebecca Evans AM, Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, has backed a campaign from Prostate Cancer UK to raise awareness of the risk of prostate cancer in Wales.

At an event at the National Assembly for Wales, Prostate Cancer UK launched the Wales arm of the UK wide campaign Men United vs Prostate Cancer. The campaign, which in Wales is backed by Olympic legend Colin Jackson, uses the language of sport to engage men with their prostate health.

Supporting the campaign, Mrs Evans said:

“Prostate cancer affects over 2,000 men in Wales a year, with 537 men dying from the cancer in 2011. With the incidence of prostate cancer being higher in Wales than any other part of the UK, it is high time we encouraged more men to sit up and take notice warning signs of prostate cancer. This is why I am supporting Prostate Cancer UK and their new campaign Men United vs Prostate Cancer.”

You can get involved in the campaign by signing up at http://menunited.prostatecanceruk.org/

Prostate Cancer UK has recently opened an office in Wales and will have a specialist nurse available who will have time talk and answer questions about prostate cancer. They also have a vibrant online community ready to offer one to one support for those concerned.
