AM Hails Victory in Road Speed Campaign

Ken_Skates_AMCampaigners are celebrating after a council vowed to crack down on speeding on a busy main road.

Concerned residents in the village of Bettisfield, between Ellesmere and Whitchurch on the Shropshire border, contacted their Welsh Assembly Member Ken Skates about persistent dangerous driving on the A495.

Wrexham Council agreed the issue needed addressing, and will now install additional signs and road markings in a bid to reduce speeding on the rural route.

Labour AM Mr Skates said: “I know that speeding on the busy A495 has been an issue for a long time, especially at the two turn-offs to Bettisfield. After I was contacted by one of my constituents in Hanmer whose son had been involved in a serious crash on the road, because of a speeding driver and through no fault of his own, I took the matter up with Wrexham Council.

“The current signs are inadequate, which the council has acknowledged, and I have been assured the new, improved signage will be installed as a matter of urgency.

“I know residents were concerned that someone could be killed if action wasn’t taken, so I would like to thank Wrexham Council for their positive response and hope it will ease people’s fears and help crack down on the problem.”
