AM Lesley Welcomes Lottery Boost for Gwersyllt Playmates

Assembly Member for Wrexham, Lesley Griffiths is full praise for the Welsh Big Lottery fund following the announcement of an award of £5,000 to a Wrexham play group. The Gwersyllt Junior CP School-ran ‘Playmates Club’ received the award this month following the announcement of the Big Lottery’s Awards for All Wales of June 2011.

The funding will help the Playmates After School club hosted at Gwersyllt Junior CP School to continue and expand their ‘playmates’ afterschool club service which offers a wide range of activities and facilities after class and during holiday clubs.

This grant for £5,000 will fund children’s bicycles, craft materials, TV, TV/Wii, outdoor games equipment, activity workshops, toys and a storage unit/divider. The award was granted as the project meets the Big Lottery All Wales Award’s aim of ‘increasing skills and creativity’.

Lesley Griffiths welcomed the funding saying:

“The Big Lottery and Awards for All Wales provide a much needed source of extra funding for commendable community groups and projects such as this.

“Big Lottery funding in Wrexham alone this year, includes an award to the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA), continued funding for Wrexham Women’s Aid provide a drop-in service  – and now this boost for Gwersyllt Juniors Playmates club.

“This funding will provide extra equipment for the many youngsters who use the Gwersyllt playmates club, allowing the club to improve the variety of educational and fun activities which the children can engage with.

“The club provides a great service, I applaud the work of Staff at Gwersyllt Junior CP School  for all their hard work and congratulate them on their successful bid for funding.”
