AM Opens New-look Pharmacy as Part of Diabetes UK Campaign

Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has cut the ribbon at the opening of the new-look Rowland’s on Rhosddu Road – and took a free diabetes test  as part of the Diabetes UK’s Wales-wide type II Diabetes Campaign.

Rowland Rhosddu branch has undergone a makeover, featuring colour coded areas for different categories of over–the–counter products, a more accessible consultation room, and more space for staff and storage – meaning quicker prescription turnaround times.

However the opening gave Lesley an opportunity to take part in the two week long Diabetes UK Cymru screening Campaign, which sees all Pharmacies in Wales offering free Type II diabetes tests.

Lesley took the opportunity to have her Diabetes risk score assessed, by popping into the new consultation room for her five-minute assessment.

Lesley Griffiths said:

“I was delighted to be invited to open this new improved Rowland’s branch, which offers a much improved experience for customers and staff alike, and I thank the staff for inviting me here.

”The occasion also gave me an opportunity to take part in Diabetes UK Cymru’s diabetes screening campaign, of which Rowland’s is a part.

“Diabetes is all too common in Wales, affecting over 150,000 people. The way to bring this figure down is to know your diabetes risk and take preventative steps before onset of the condition.

“One five minute, free visit to your local pharmacy can let you know your diabetes score, and offer free advice on steps to take to avoid diabetes.  I think it’s a great initiative and would encourage people to take advantage of the free tests available at every local pharmacy. “

The free Diabetes type II assessments, and Diabetes UK Cymru information leaflets are available at all pharmacies across Wales until the 25th June.
