Gwenda Thomas, AM for Neath, today thanked Coal Industry Social Welfare Organization (CISWO) for the support they offer to former mineworkers and their families in the Neath area.
Mrs Thomas said:
“The legacy of mining is a defining feature of this constituency. I am immensely grateful to CISWO for the excellent work they do for ex-colliers, their wives and widows.”
“I know the charity’s social work service, in particular, has made a real difference to the lives of many of my constituents.”
CISWO’s Social Work Service offers free home visits and can provide help in a number of areas including benefits advice, assistance with independent living and access to funds for those facing financial hardship.
The charity also runs social groups for mineworkers’ wives and widows, including one in Resolven, and subsidised holidays for former colliers and their dependents.
Mrs Thomas added: “I hope people will put round the word about the help CISWO provides and encourage anyone they think might benefit to contact the charity.”
CISWO can be reached by phone on 01443 485233 or through their recently launched website at www.minerswelfare.org.
