AM praises Powys wind and wood generators

Welsh Assembly sustainable energy group chairman Mick Bates AM has sung the praises of wind and wood generators at Carno, Powys, which he is due to open next Wednesday.

The Carno II Windfarm is a £20 million 15.6 megawatt (MW) windfarm. The community wood pellet boiler is used by the local community centre.

Mr Bates, AM for Montgomeryshire, said: “I am delighted to support the opening of Carno II Windfarm and the Carno Community Wood Pellet Boiler, which are fantastic examples of how a local community can benefit from the development of renewable energy and help to tackle climate change at the same time.

Carno II Windfarm will supply over a quarter of the Powys population with electricity and repay the energy used during construction within 8 months. It has also brought huge benefits with over £4million spent in the Welsh economy during construction, a commitment to manage the habitat around the site and to invest £30,000 annually on projects that directly benefit the local community.”
