AM Urges Community Support for Local Project

The Caerphilly Miners Community Centre Management Committee, chaired by Caerphilly AM Jeff Cuthbert, has been working to claim back the original part of the Caerphilly District Miners Hospital – formerly known as ‘The Beeches.’ The committee aims to turn the historical building into a community asset once the hospital is closed in 2011 and has made fantastic progress in a number of areas.

The committee recently presented their case to the Planning Authority for inclusion of community facilities on the site in the Local Development Plan and have commissioned a feasibility study which will be completed at the end of July. They are keen to involve as many members of the public and community as possible and have recently been developing their membership.

If you would like to find out more about the project or join as a member, the committee will have a stall and be holding a raffle at the Caerphilly Big Cheese Festival on 24 and 25 July 2010 at the Owain Glyndwr playing fields. The committee hopes to raise awareness about the project, however if you are unable to attend the festival but are interested in becoming a member please contact the Membership Secretary at [email protected]

Jeff Cuthbert AM for Caerphilly said “This is a really exciting community project and I urge everyone from Caerphilly and the surrounding areas to call in at this wonderful festival. Don’t forget to look for the Management Committee’s stall while you’re there. I will also be at the stall on Sunday morning if anyone would like to speak to me about related or unrelated constituency issues.”
