Carmarthenshire MP given Influential Role on in Westminster

Jonathan Edwards MP has been named as one of the official members of the crucially important Welsh Select Committee in Westminster.  Carmarthenshire’s newest MP will be representing the county, and Wales, as a member of the committee and has outlined his ambition to assist Welsh Government Ministers seeking improvements in services in Wales as part of his role.

Jonathan Edwards MP said:

“I am privileged to have been nominated to the committee and will of course do everything I can to represent the views of local people at the highest level.  The committee plays an important job and I am very much looking forward to working with Welsh Government Ministers to make sure that they are given the support needed to make a real difference to the lives of people in Wales.

Speaking about the make up of the Committee Jonathan added:

“I am disappointed that my constituency neighbour Simon Hart MP did not feel compelled to put his name forward for this committee.  Whilst I feel standing up for people in the county is the most important aspect of my job I can only assume by not taking up a place on the committee, whilst Conservative MPs representing English constituencies have, Mr Hart does not agree with that view.  I am sure there will be a number of people in Carmarthenshire who will be disappointed by that.”

Rhodri Glyn Thomas said:

“I am very pleased that as a result of this appointment Carmarthenshire will have a strong voice on important Welsh issues.  Jonathan is passionate about Welsh affairs and I am sure that will be a great asset to the committee in its work.”
