Andy takes over the helm as Angle’s new Coxswain

A new full-time Coxswain has taken over the helm of Angle’s RNLI Tamar class all-weather lifeboat Mark Mason.

Andy Elliot, who will celebrate his 43rd birthday next week (14 September), moves to Pembrokeshire from Scotland, where he was full-time Mechanic at the RNLI’s Peterhead lifeboat station.

At Angle, he succeeds Coxswain Jerry Rees, who retired in March after 38 years service to the RNLI – 17 of them as full-time Coxswain. Since Jerry’s retirement, RNLI Staff Coxswain Lee Firman has been at the helm.

Andy, who is married with two daughters, joined the RNLI seven years ago as a volunteer crew member at Peterhead and was appointed full-time Mechanic four years ago.

Originally from Elgin in Scotland, he is a former soldier – serving in the Royal Corps of Transport – and, after leaving the Army, spent time as a lorry driver before joining the Prison Service at Peterhead. In his spare time, he is a keen fly fisherman.

Peterhead has the distinction of having been allocated the first operational Tamar class lifeboat in Scotland and the second in the UK – the first went to Tenby.
