Another step towards Church Village Bypass finish

Church Village Bypass has taken a step closer to the completion, with the opening of another section of the £90million highways project.

Throughout the last few months additional sections of the 7km-long Bypass have already opened to traffic. Despite periods of adverse weather Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s contractors Costain have ensured that the project remains well on course for its Autumn 2010 opening

The first of the four new roundabouts at Nant Dowlais have now come into use for motorists. The new section of road will take traffic from Crown Hill to Creigiau and will signal the closure to through traffic to the northern end of Heol Creigiau and a new temporary access off the roundabout to the Woodland Walk Garden Centre.

Residents and commuters will continue to see various phases of completion to the project in the weeks and months ahead.

The Nant Dowlais roundabout will allow tie-in works for the Efail Isaf access road that will open in May. Also, the three pedestrian footbridges will be delivered in April.

Cllr Andrew Morgan, Cabinet Member for Transport and Customer Care explained: “Many milestones have now been reached in the Church Village Bypass project and we look forward to reaching many more in the coming months.

“We look forward to the continuing success of the project and the many lasting benefits it will bring not only to the adjoining communities it will serve, but the whole of Rhondda Cynon Taf.”

Barry Woodman, Project Manager for Costain said: “I am pleased to report that we are making good progress and the opening of this new section of road between Crownhill and Creigiau will allow us focus on the construction of the Heol Creigiau end of the Efail Isaf link road.

“I would remind the public that whilst the road is safe and well signposted it is not fully complete and I would ask that all motorists approach the new section of road slowly and with care.”
