Anticipation Brewing for Carol Singing to Raise Cash for School

Anticipation is brewing among pupils ahead of a festive feast of carol singing at a coffee shop to raise cash for their school.

EStudents from St Christopher’s School, Wrexham, will perform a host of Christmas favourites for coffee drinkers at Starbucks at the  Eagles Meadow shopping centre, Wrexham, next Monday (December 9)

A merry band of 30 pupils between the age of 11 and 14 will spread Christmas cheer throughout the shop in a 30 minute performance, with classics like Away in Manger and Jingle Bells.

St Christopher’s pupil, Sion Matthews, 12, said: “The choir’s got together at Christmas time especially to help the school. It’s important to help the school. I want everybody to have a good Christmas.

“I’m really looking forward to Christmas. It’s my favourite time of year.”

Fellow pupil, Cawley Vallance, 12, added: “I’m looking forward to the carol singing a lot. I come to Eagles Meadow about once a week. It’s a really nice place. I’ve done carol singing a couple of times before. I’m looking forward to coming here and doing it again.”

The idea came from Starbucks who asked the school if they  could help them to raise some money by having the children carol singing  at the store  as part of their commitment to helping the community.

Teaching Assistant Lindsey May said: “The children are all really excited about it. They’re looking forward to coming and having a sing. We’ve invited parents to come down to support as well.

“We’re raising money for the school in general but it’s not just about making the money. It’s about having a nice time and the kids getting to do something that they wouldn’t necessarily get to do and getting involved in the community.

“St Christopher’s is a school for children with special educational needs, so we have children of varying abilities. It’s about what people can do and not what they can’t do, so we look at it in terms of ability instead of disability.”

Alex Green, manager of Starbucks at Eagles Meadow, said: “It’s getting closer and closer to Christmas now, and everywhere is turning red, so you can feel the anticipation brewing.

“Everybody wants a bit of festive fun so we wanted to get the school involved to come and do some carol singing to make some money for the school and spread a bit of Christmas spirit.

“We’re looking forward to the children from St Christopher’s coming down to do some carol singing. It’ll be really nice and it’ll be lovely to get the supporters down. Hopefully this will inspire people to support he school.

“It’s very important for us to be involved in the community doing things like this.

“We love doing things to help raise money for local charities, schools, and we do a lot for hospices as well.”
