Police are investigating after a 13 year old girl reported she was the victim of a serious sexual assault on Saturday evening (March 1st)
It’s believed the 13 year old (who is from the Newport area) and the alleged offender got off a bus by the Harvester, Malpas Road, Newport walked to a lane off Hollybush Close where the incident occurred at approximately 7.30pm
Police are particularly wanting anyone who was in the Newport bus station area at about 7.15pm or was on the 19e (town centre to Malpas) bus that left the bus station at approximately 7.20pm to contact them
A 26 year old man from the Newport area has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody
The victim and her family are receiving specialist support from officers.
