Two Rhondda PCSOs have followed their noses to uncover a large cannabis factory.

While patrolling Hannah Street, Porth, PCSOs Cath Jones and David Hughes caught the distinctive scent of cannabis and tracked it to a nearby disused sun bed and dog grooming shop.

Within hours a search warrant was executed at the address and they uncovered cannabis plants covering all three floors and virtually every room in the premises.

The cannabis had been cultivated and placed in piles on the floor ready to be sold.

It is thought the yield could have netted the growers tens of thousands of pounds on the street but instead it has been seized and will be destroyed.

Two men believed to be from outside the UK have been arrested in connection with the Hannah Street incident.

The same day a smaller cannabis factory was uncovered in a basement of a property just down the road in Cymmer.

Officers used a drugs dog to search the premises and located a hidden basement area being used to grow the drug. A total of 14 plants were seized and a 43 year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Inspector Nick Picton, said: “We had two successful warrants on Thursday.

“I hope this sends a clear message that we are taking action when it comes to drugs.

“The police and local communities are teaming up well to make a stand against drugs and long may this continue.

“The public are our eyes and ears and we will act on the information given to us.

“We also apply to seize cash and assets from people suspected of profiting from drugs to ensure they don’t benefit.”

Anyone who suspects drug dealing in t community is urged to call South Wales Police non emergency 101 number or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
