Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery, Bettws Lane, Newport last Thursday evening (February 13th, 2014).
The incident occurred at about 8.20pm as the 19 year old female victim turned left near the top of Bettws Lane and started to walk along a lane just above the canal.
A black new style Ford Fiesta parked not far behind her. The male driver got out of the car and as the woman walked along the lane she felt her backpack being pulled from behind. The woman pulled back, the man lost his grip and she ran off. She turned at the end of the lane and the man was nowhere to be seen.
The man is described as Asian – Indian or Pakistani in appearance, about 5’8” to 5’9” and skinny build. He was between 20 and 30 years of age, and had short shaved black hair. He was wearing a black top (possibly a T-shirt) with a glowing or white logo on the top left corner, and a pair of jeans.
