Archbishop preaches at festival of 350-year-old charity

The Archbishop of Wales will preach at the festival service next week of a charity set up more than 350 years ago to support families of clergy persecuted by Oliver Cromwell.

Dr Barry Morgan is this year’s guest preacher at the annual fund-raising festival of the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy which now helps clergy families in need.

The 357th Festival service takes place at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, on Tuesday (May 17). The guest speaker at the dinner following will be the comedian, writer and bishop’s son, Hugh Dennis.

The Archbishop said, “This charity helps a range of people in a quiet, discreet, non-judgemental way and I can testify to the tremendous difference it makes. Ministries have flourished again because of the support it gives. Without it, the lives of many clergy and their families would be very different and the ministries of many of them come to an end.”
