Youngsters from across Gwynedd and Anglesey could have a chance to develop their artistic flair thanks to a scheme which will fund professional artists to work with schools.
The Gwynedd and Anglesey Arts Agency for Schools has secured Lottery funding via the Arts Council, which will fund arts activities as well as training for teachers and artists for the next year.
The Agency is now urging schools in Gwynedd which are interested in holding art activities, and could benefit from funding, to contact them.
Gwawr Wyn Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Community Arts Development Officer, said:
“Taking part in the arts is important for the educational and social development of all children, and they also get an immeasurable amount of pleasure from the experience. Our aim is to make sure these opportunities are open to as many children as possible, no matter where in Gwynedd and Anglesey they live.
“The Agency can help with funding for a number of art activities in schools ranging from visual arts such as painting and sculpture to music, dance and drama or a combination of these disciplines. The Agency is also providing extra training for teachers and artists which will hopefully provide a springboard for children’s artistic output.
“We would call on all schools which are keen to increase what opportunities they can provide to contact us for further details. The Agency also holds a data base of local artists who work with children, any artist interested in this type of work should also contact us to have their name added to the list.”
The closing dates for the rounds of funding available over the next 12 months are – 9 July, 2010; 30 November, 2010 and 31 March, 2011.
