Arts Boost for Hayscastle School

Children at Hayscastle CP School are to start work on a major new art project, thanks to a grant of nearly £5,000 from Awards for All Wales.

The grant will fund work on an exterior mural, to be designed and created in conjunction with local artist Jean Thomas.

“The money will be used to run design workshop sessions and buy the many resources needed – both physical and human,” said Councillor Tom Richards, chair of the school’s governing body.

“This will enable the project to enhance the pupils’ experiences of designing and producing an item of large-scale structural creativity.”

The project will see the children working with members of the local community to strengthen and build on the excellent links which already exist, and develop a sense of team-building and collaboration.

The grant from Awards for All Wales, a lottery-funded grants programme, has been boosted by donations from The Milford Mercury and Hayscastle Community Council.

The school extended their thanks to all the organisations for ensuring that the project can take place.

“The money will make a real difference, and provide the pupils and the whole community with a project of great significance,” said Councillor Richards.
