Assembly committee considers student bus passes

An investigation into the provision of free bus passes for students will take place after Darren Millar AM presented the National Assembly with a petition from Coleg Llandrillo students.

Earlier in January, students from Coleg Llandrillo presented Clwyd West AM Darren Millar was presented with a petition calling for free bus passes for students under 25, and in full time education.

The petition was discussed by the Assembly’s Petitions Committee yesterday when AMs decided to undertake research into the proposals and agreed to invite the students to meet with the Committee via video-link to discuss the petition further. The National Union of Students will also be invited to express their views.

Darren Millar said:

“I’m delighted that the Petitions Committee is giving these proposals serious consideration.

“Students at Coleg Llandrillo feel very strongly about this issue and it is only right that they should have the opportunity  to a fair hearing from Assembly Members.

“I’m hopeful that the petition will meet with considerable support from AMs from all parties and I look forward to seeing how things develop.”

He added, ‘It’s great to see young people engaging in the democratic process.”
