Bargoed development takes shape

A major event has taken place in the Caerphilly county borough where businesses were given the chance to ‘Express their Interest’ in tendering for contracts to construct a major new retail development in Bargoed Town centre.

Caerphilly County Borough Council, Caerphilly Business Forum, the Supplier Development Service and the Wales Co-operative Centre are working in partnership with Simons Developments ltd to help local businesses tender for a range of prestigious contracts at their first ‘Meet the Buyer Event’, which was held at Penallta House Council Offices in Ystrad Mynach.

The long-awaited retail development in Bargoed comprises a 56,000 sq. ft. anchor store, which is pre-let to Morrisons and seven mixed-use retail units of 20,500 sq. ft., together with a 400 space car park. There are around 90 packages to the build, which range from security guarding through to structural steel work and landscaping.

Cllr Ron Davies, Cabinet Member for Regeneration said, “It’s great to see that our plans to breathe new life into Bargoed are moving forward and the scheme is finally becoming a reality. There is a wealth of business expertise throughout the county borough and we are delighted that Simons are giving our businesses the opportunity to tender for the work. There are strict selection criteria, but the partners have the expertise to support businesses and help them to understand the process for private sector procurement.”

Graeme Cosgrove, Development Director at Simons Developments ltd commented, ” We look forward to working with Caerphilly County Borough Council and Morrisons over the coming months to deliver a new development that the people of Bargoed and the wider community can be proud of.”
