Barry Dock lifeboat called to rescue yacht

The volunteer crew of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s Barry Dock lifeboat were called to a yacht between the Nash Point and Llantwit major.

As the crew were settling down for a well deserved crew and family BBQ on Saturday 3 September, HM Coastguard requested the lifeboat to launch to a yacht in difficulty.

The 23ft yacht, with two people on board, which was sailing from Swansea to Chepstow, had suffered machinery failure and was unable to sail.

The Barry Dock lifeboat put one of its crew members on board the yacht and it was then towed to the Barry Harbour for repairs. The lifeboat crew arrived back just as the fireworks display had started at the waterfront tall ships display – what a welcome home!
