Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has welcomed the announcement of a £275,000 grant from CADW to restore the Grade I-listed Parliament House, home of the Owain Glyndwr Centre in Machynlleth, Powys.
Commenting, Mick Bates AM said:
“The CADW grant is fantastic news for the Owain Glyndwr Centre and will be put to good use restoring Parliament House, which is a tremendous part of our heritage in Wales. Owain Glyndwr and the first ever Welsh Parliament in 1404 are a hugely important part of our Welsh history and it is right that we have a fitting facility in their honour.
“A dedicated group of enthusiasts have worked hard to keep the Owain Glyn Dwr Centre alive and have exciting plans to create a more modern centre to celebrate the life of possibly the greatest ever Welsh person.
“Three years ago I invited the Heritage Minister to visit Machynlleth and meet the members of the team and it’s been a long wait for them since, but I am delighted that CADW has awarded this grant of £275,000 which will go a long way in bringing their plans to life.”
