Bates welcomes Moat Lane planning permission

Montgomeryshire Assembly Member Mick Bates has welcomed the news that Powys County Council has granted planning permissions for the relocation of the unsafe Moat Lane junction in Caersws to a safe point on the A470 Trunk Road.

Commenting, Assembly Member Mick Bates stated:

“The recent decision by Powys County Council to grant planning permission for the relocation of the unsafe Moat Lane junction in Caersws is extremely welcome.  This success is in large part due to the perseverance and support of residents in the area, who were not properly consulted over changes at the crossing in the first place.

“The safety of road users in Caersws around the Moat Lane junction was seriously compromised by Network Rail when they installed a new barrier to the railway and significantly reduced visibility on the trunk road and Moat Lane.  Now that Powys Council has granted planning permission, people who use Moat Lane have hope of using a safer junction at last.

“This is welcome progress but the next step is to ensure that work commences as soon as possible to relocate the Moat Lane junction.  I have written to the Minister for Transport urging him to make this work a priority.”
