Bates: Yes, I agree

Commenting on the report of the Electoral Commission into the wording of the proposed referendum on law making powers for the Welsh Assembly, Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates said:

“I’m delighted that the UK Government has acted swiftly to ensure a referendum on law making powers takes place as early as possible.

“The current system means Wales can only make laws on some subjects in devolved areas and must go cap in hand to Westminster for further powers.  The process is lengthy and cumbersome and it’s time for a change.

“This will be an important decision and it is right that an independent commission should comment on the wording of the proposed referendum question, so that we have clearest possible question.

“Whatever the final wording, it will be up to the people to decide on the future for Wales, but I for one will be saying ‘Yes, I agree.’”
