BayLit Shock of the New Festival 2010

The BayLit Shock of the New Festival returns this October to push even further the boundaries of literature in Cardiff Bay.

At the cutting edge of literature there has always been a fear of the new and delight at the disappearance of the old. What will the future look like? How do we get there? What’s holding us back? Academi’s BayLit Shock of the New festival gathers together some of the best literary innovation around. Confront the fixed, drop the norm, change the technique, look outside the box. Will any of this be unpredictable? Yes.

This year’s bilingual festival, which runs from Monday 25 to Saturday 30 October 2010, will focus on new and emerging writers as well as innovative and original writing styles, publications, technologies and performances. Events include a Poems & Pints night in Cardiff Central Library; a discussion with Bright Young Things Susie Wild, Tyler Keevil and James Smythe; a hilarious afternoon of Welsh-language stand-up poetry in Y Babell Wên; Welsh authors Owen Sheers, Gwyneth Lewis, Russell Celyn Jones and Niall Griffiths discuss their new adaptations and reworking of the Mabinogi stories and Sesiwn Undydd which gives 2 writers and 2 sets of musicians one day to deliver a brand new collaborative EP. Plus texting, psych-pop and poetry performance, from the likes of Byron Vincent, Liam Johnson, Hannah Silva, Ceri Elen and Rufus Mufasa, are all intricately entwined in TXT2BayLit which promises to be a stand-out festival event.

In the run up to and during the festival, Academi, with contributions from our speakers, will be Tweeting, on Facebook, uploading videos and generally keeping the world updated on everything BayLit related. For further details and to view the full programme visit: www.baylit.co.uk
