Beechley Drive Community Art Project

Cardiff artist, Louise Shenstone has been working with Cardiff Council to undertake a community art project at Beechley Drive in Pentrebane.

The art project is a temporary measure for the shop fronts and is linked to long term proposals to demolish and redevelop the shops and flats on Beechley Drive.

Pupils at 3 local primary schools – Coed Y Gof, Holy Family RC and Pentrebane Primary and young people at Waterhall Youth Centre have been involved in art workshops.  During the workshops young people and children have been learning to use computer software, ink pens, printing and drawing skills to develop artwork for the vacant shop fronts.  The themes for the shop fronts are hardware, toys, fruit’n’veg and the Waterhall Cafe.

The final design for the artwork will be on display at the shops in Beechley Drive. The artwork will be installed early next year.

Councillor Judith Woodman, Cardiff Council Executive Member for Communities, Housing and Social Justice said: “The art project is a positive step forward in the regeneration of the shops at Beechley Drive.  It is great to see local children and young people getting involved in creating individual pieces of artwork that the whole community can enjoy.”
