Big turnout for Santa’s arrival

Over 1500 people, young and old, braved freezing conditions to see Santa arrive in Wrexham last night. Santa arrived at his grotto on Queen’s Square in style, accompanied by his snow dogs and laden with presents for the boys and girls who visit the grotto.

The fun-filled night also featured rides for small children, music and visits from local pantomime characters.

Santa’s arrival also marked the opening of the Christmas Village, with wooden cabins selling a variety of stocking fillers, crafts and tasty food.

Santa will be at his grotto on Queen’s Square every day right up until noon on Christmas Eve.

Kay Rickard, event organiser at Wrexham Council’s Economic Development department, hailed the event as a huge success.

She said: “Santa’s arrival in Wrexham is always very popular but this year was truly spectacular, especially when you take the weather into consideration.

“All the children were really excited to see Santa and I’m sure he’s going to have a busy few weeks on Queen’s Square.

“The Grotto looks fantastic. I would like to thank this year’s sponsors, Paveaways who have helped put Santa’s grotto together. They have done this free of charge and I would like to thank them for all their hard work and effort this year.”

Santa’s Grotto opening times are as follows:

  • Thursdays: 11am – 7.30pm
