Birth of a New Era in the History of the City of Newport at Lydia Beynon Maternity Hospital

William Graham (Conservative AM for South Wales East) at the opening of the Ryder Cup is pleased to announce the responding birth of a new era in the history of the City of Newport at Lydia Beynon Maternity Hospital.

“In 1975, the last of an estimated 60,000 babies was born at the Lydia Beynon Maternity Hospital – one of whom was Sir Terry Matthews; who bought the hospital and created the Celtic Manor Resort”.

“Today’s opening of the Ryder Cup offers the birth of new and exciting opportunities for Newport to show a world-wide audience that this is the city to invest in, to work in, to visit and to participate or spectate sports of the highest calibre”.

“We must all celebrate this birth by extending the warmest hospitality to our guest, offering them every opportunity to take a treasure memory of Newport away with them; together with a commitment to return”.

“I wish Colin Montgomery and his team every success on the golf course; but also wish the City of Newport every success in gaining future economic investment”.
