Boat Owner Phones a Friend for Help

The small boat, with three local people on board, had electrical problems and the owner had called a family friend by mobile phone to inform him of the difficulty they were in. The friend knew Mr Spencer Davies, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Burry Port, who immediately launched Burry Port’s inshore lifeboat The Young Watsons.

Due to the electrical problems the crewmembers were unable to use the boat’s radio to call the coastguards for help so used a mobile phone to phone a friend.

The lifeboat took the boat in tow and towed it back to its trailer at Burry Port. The boat was back in the marina at 9:40 pm.

Before the boat was recovered at 9:40The Young Watsons was tasked to investigate a flare seen over Broughton Beach. After an intensive search nothing was found. It was thought that the flare was fired from inland and the search was called off. The lifeboat was back at the station at 10:50.

The lifeboat was crewed by Devoran Cross, Julian Aston and Simon White. Simon was out on his first call.
