Seaside stories, face painting and arts and crafts will be among the fun as Swansea celebrates National Bookstart Week.
A series of events have been arranged at Central Library in the Civic Centre on Friday June 11 between 10am and noon to mark the occasion.
Bookstart aims to help every child in the UK develop a lifelong love of books and the programme for 2010 is offering millions of children and parents the chance to discover the joy of reading together.
This year’s National Bookstart Week theme is At the Seaside and a specially commissioned booklet written by Tony Mitton and illustrated by Alex Ayliffe is being handed out for free at all Bookstart events.
Seaside posters, stickers and post cards are also being made available.
Swansea Council is behind the fun at Central Library and helped to organise other Bookstart events in community libraries earlier this week.
Anna Westall, Swansea Bookstart Co-ordinator, said:
“National Bookstart Week is a great chance to remind parents and children of the joy of sharing stories together. It’s also a chance for everyone to have fun with lots of activities that bring wonderful stories to life.”
