Internet safety leaflets

A Corwen police officer has taken it upon himself to produce internet safety leaflets.

Community Beat Manager Peter Stephens has been to most schools in his area delivering leaflets

“I initially I got the idea of producing a leaflet not just to inform children of the danger of the internet but also to warn and give advice to parents,” he said.

“I then thought it would be good to distribute these through schools to be handed out with school notices and reports to parents in a bid to keep children safe.”

The internet safety leaflets were launched recently at Ysgol Maes Hyfryd in Cynwyd, Corwen, where PC Stephens delivered 72 leaflets and since then he has numerous requests for them to be distributed around the schools.

Mrs Owain, head teacher at Ysgol Maes Hyfryd in Cynwyd commented: “It’s a pamphlet that I as head teacher warmly welcome. I feel it is a very important document because it explains Cleary and concisely to both parents and pupils the importance of internet safety.”

As pupils Megan Jones and Lowri Wheeler received the leaflet they said: “It’s good, it says not to talk to strangers on the internet and the importance of not giving personal details.”

They added: “Its right to give parents as well so they know what to do to keep children safe.”
