Boosting Gwynedd Communities

The Gwynedd Economic Partnership will be launching a new and exciting community venture at the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd on Thursday, 21 July.

The Sustainable Communities scheme is aimed at rejuvenating Gwynedd’s rural communities by promoting the shared use of resources and buildings and providing services in an innovative way.

This scheme can invest up to £100,000 in five rural communities across Gwynedd by developing regeneration scheme ideas. This could include using existing buildings and resources in a new or different way to provide community services or enterprises.

Sioned Morgan, the Sustainable Communities project officer, said: “The people and the services that they provide are the making of our communities. The Sustainable Communities scheme is an excellent way of ensuring that the communities themselves take the lead and make important decisions for our towns and villages.”

The scheme is part of the Gwynedd Rural Development Plan, which is led by the Gwynedd Local Implementation Group.

The Group chairman Gwynedd Watkin said: “The Sustainable Communities scheme is an exciting way of allowing five enthusiastic communities to be in control and to take the first steps towards being self sufficient.”

Gwynedd Council’s Economy and Community Team will be holding information and guidance sessions for those with genuine interest in applying for funding.

All sessions will be held between 7-9pm at:

7 September – Penygroes village hall
