Responding to today’s proposals by the UK Government to restore the Lottery’s core purpose of funding arts, heritage and sport, Welsh Conservative Assembly leader Nick Bourne AM said:
“I welcome this decision. For far too long the previous Labour government plundered National Lottery money to pay for projects instead of using their own departmental funds.
“The Lottery was never intended for that purpose and I am pleased the new Conservative-LibDem government is making early changes to ensure Lottery money is used for its original purpose.
“I also welcome the new government’s commitment to getting more money to voluntary and community organisations with Big Lottery Fund support targeted exclusively on that sector.
“This will benefit projects across Wales.”
