Bridgend murder: Police appeal for information

South Wales Police is investigating the death of a 15-year-old girl from Maesteg.

The body of Rebecca Aylward was found in wooded area just outside Aberkenfig at around 9am today.

Two local 15-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in custody.

Rebecca was last seen in Sarn Hill, Sarn at around 12.30pm yesterday (Saturday) where she was dropped off by relatives to visit a friend.

She was reported missing by her mother in the evening when she failed to return home.

Rebecca’s family have been informed and are being supported, and updated, by family liaison officers.

An incident room has been set up at Bridgend Police Station and detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen Rebecca on Saturday, or has any other information, to come forward.

Detective Superintendent Paul Burke said: “Our thoughts are with Rebecca’s family who are naturally devastated. A murder investigation is underway and I would appeal for anyone with information to please contact the incident room.”
