Buckley Fly-tipping Action Day

An action day against fly-tipping has been held in Buckley town centre and around its industrial areas.

A number of groups worked together including Fly-tipping Action Wales;

Environment Agency Wales; Flintshire County Council’s Environmental Crime Team; North Wales Arson Reduction Team and North Wales Police.

Advice was given to businesses on pollution prevention, reducing arson and checking waste to meet legislation.

Flintshire County Council’s Environmental Crime team carried out checks to ensure that the businesses had proper waste management contracts in place to properly dispose of their waste and reduce illegal dumping.

Louise Peel, Environment Officer with Environment Agency Wales, said: ”The day was a great success! Over 50 businesses were visited and given advice on how they could reduce their impact on the local environment. This got a lot of attention from the businesses, who expressed their disapproval and disgust of fly-tipping.”

Councillor Nancy Matthews, Flintshire County Council’s executive member for Waste Strategy and Management, said: “At the moment the Environment Agency is putting a lot of effort into working more closely with businesses and the community to protect the public and help businesses, in particular, to comply with the law throughout the United Kingdom.

“It’s good to know that here in Flintshire we are at the forefront of this activity with several agencies working together as they did in the Enforcement Day in Buckley.

“It is always better to work with people and encourage compliance rather than issue threatening notices. Congratulations to all the agencies involved.”

Any businesses or householders wishing to find out more on how to comply with the legislation and the rules surrounding waste disposal can contact Flintshire County Council on 01352 703350 or the Environment Agency on 01244 894610.
