Buckley Town Masterplan

Proposals for a major redevelopment of Buckley town centre, set out in a new masterplan, were approved at Flintshire County Council’s Executive today.

This followed work carried out by consultants Urban Practitioners over the last six months, including a major exhibition at Buckley Library which attracted significant interest from the town’s residents. The aim of the masterplan is to set a framework for improvement and investment across Buckley Town Centre.

More than three hundred people responded to the options suggested, which included proposals for a new supermarket, improvements to car parking and to the town generally. Other suggestions included; a better range of shops, improving the appearance of the town and see it ‘’brightened up’’ with less litter, a wider choice of restaurants and cafés, the creation of a ‘one stop shop’ for a range of County Council and other community services and the creation of a distinctive cultural and leisure quarter along Mold Road.

These responses have now been built into the revised masterplan which has now been given Council endorsement.

A spokesman on behalf of all Buckley County Councillors, said, “All of the Buckley Councillors are behind this proposal. It is an ambitious plan, but it is grounded in hard reality. All of the options put forward have been tested in the marketplace and we believe this plan can be delivered. The Town Partnership, representing the Town Council, local businesses, local community groups and the County Council will now seek to take forward the proposals in the masterplan. We want to see a quality development in the centre of our town, one that we can all be proud of and that will serve the town for the next twenty or thirty years.

“The next steps will be to bring together all of the appropriate landowners so that we can then invite developers to take the project forward. We are hopeful that we will see a development proposal before the end of 2011, with a view to the development process commencing shortly afterwards.”
