Budding Artist Wins Flood Awareness 2009 Logo Competition

Preparations are well underway for the Denbighshire Flood Awareness event in Rhyl this September and Ysgol Llywelyn pupil, Gemma Pearson from Rhyl, has been named the winner in a logo competition.

The competition was to design a logo to go with the event and every primary school in the county was invited to take part. The winning logo was chosen by Cabinet Lead member for Environment, Councillor Eryl Williams who was impressed with ten year old Gemma’s design.

As a prize, Gemma, who will be going into year six when term starts, was given a framed copy of her design and a £10 gift voucher. In fact this is the second art competition Gemma has won, having won MP, Chris Ruane’s annual Christmas Card competition this year too!

The Denbighshire Flood Awareness Event will give residents the chance to quiz experts about the risk of flooding. It will be held at Morrisons car park, Rhyl on September 12 from 10am to 4pm.

Organised by Denbighshire County Council, the event will have representatives from the local authority as well as Environment Agency, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water- who will be on hand to offer advice on what you can do to protect your home from floods.
