Building Excellence and Newport Construction Initiative awards

The second Building Excellence and Newport Construction Initiative (NCI) awards were held last week at the Parc Golf Club, Coedkernew.

The awards recognise achievement in the construction sector and deputy leader of Newport City Council, Councillor Ed Townsend was on hand to present the awards.

Councillor Townsend said: “It is no secret that the construction sector has been hit by the economic downturn; however, it is testament to the work of those in the industry that many developments have been completed in Newport.

“The awards highlight that we have the ability to manage top class projects and we have a well qualified and motivated workforce.”

A total of eight Building Excellence Awards were presented while there were three NCI awards.

One of the NCI winners included Andrew Dare who was named outstanding achiever. Andrew completed a bricklaying course and enrolled at Coleg Gwent, he joined Leadbitter in September 2008 and was on the construction team for Newport High School.
