Burns: U-turn on Home Education Register is Common Sense

Angela_BurnsCommenting on the Welsh Government’s decision not to introduce a compulsory register and monitoring scheme for parents who educate their children at home and to issue non-statutory guidance instead, Angela Burns AM, Shadow Minister for Education, said:

“This is a welcome U-turn from Welsh Labour and I am pleased that Ministers listened to the views of the many parents who make an informed decision to educate their children at home.

“It is the role of parents to decide what is best for their children, not Labour’s big nanny state and it would have been wrong to penalise good parents who favour home education.

“I hope that this non-statutory approach will help improve support for home educators without interfering in their family life.”
