Commenting on the statement from the Welsh Government on its review into Higher Education funding, Angela Burns AM, Shadow Minister for Education, said:
“Welsh Conservatives played a key role in cross-party talks securing a U-turn from the Welsh Government to prevent Labour kicking the pressing issue of higher education funding into the long grass beyond the next Assembly elections.
“Welsh Conservatives will be playing a full part in this review to establish a sustainable way of funding Welsh universities, which can deliver the resources HE institutions need and deliver value for money for taxpayers.
“Labour’s current tuition fee subsidy is unsustainable, is a drain on taxpayers and is sending tens of millions of pounds to English universities, so I am hopeful that this review will be able to recommend a suitable replacement.”
