Burry Port lifeboat launches to person cut off on Burry Holmes

At 3pm on Friday 29 April 2011 the volunteers at the RNLI’s station at Burry Port launched to a report of a person cut off at Burry Holmes.

The person from Cardiff had crossed over to Burry Holmes at low water to go fishing. He missed timed his return from Burry Holmes and was cut off by the rising tide.

The person was picked up by the lifeboat and landed on Rhossili beach into the care of the coastguards.

On the return journey to Burry Port the lifeboat was diverted to a broken down RIB off Burry Port marina. The RIB with three persons from Llanelli on board was towed back into Burry Port where it was recovered on to its trailer.

As soon as the tow was finished the lifeboat was again diverted to a third call down on the River Gwendraeth where it was reported that a personal water craft had run aground on a sandbank. On arrival at Carmarthen Bay Caravan Park the personal water craft had been given assistance by other craft that were in the area.

The lifeboat was finally recovered at 5pm. The lifeboat was crewed by Owain Davies, Neil Roberts and Darren Caines.
